"I look back now and I wonder when and where it all went wrong. I wonder when magical turned into mundane, when novelty turned into necessity. I wonder when it was that SL stopped being something I chose to do and became something I needed to do instead. I wonder when it was that I became addicted. *Really* addicted. I wonder if it could have been any other way, and I honestly doubt that it could have."

A Second Life® detective reflects on cases and confessions, on love, on anger, on understanding Second Life as perhaps the greatest liberator there has ever been, and on falling for the oldest trick in the book, just the same...

AFK eBook Huckleberry Hax

As I was reading this, I had to stop and do an internet search every now and then to find out what some of the acronyms meant. Obviously, I am not a follower of this writer's work. However, the story flowed so well without the reader needing to understand every detail that I was able to follow it and understand it. There were times when I really wondered what was going on, and times when I was questioning the narrator. Not because the story wasn't clear, but because the story was pushing me to think about the details underlying the story. In some ways, it reminded me of Catcher in the Rye (except not a coming of age story). You listen to this narrator and even though he has come right out and told you that he is not reliable, you want to see the whole thing from his POV. When the surprise ending snuck up on me, I wanted to kick myself for not figuring it out sooner, but I was too swept up in the story to do it.
I will never see "lol" the same again.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys suspense and is willing to visit an alternate world with its own rules and lingo and social mores.

AFK eBook Huckleberry Hax Reviews

This was a really fun read and I just couldn't stop. It felt like being logged on which was a nice feeling because I can't get to SL nearly as often as I'd like. I absolutely loved the surprise ending. If you're a fan of Second Life you may enjoy this book especially if you've done some role play.
Honestly, I only picked this up cuz it was free and I love SL. I didn't expect much but I found the way in which the story was written, especially utilizing SL cultural conventions, to be very clever. I pretty much read it straight thru once I picked it up and immediately downloaded two more of the author's books. I think you have to have some familiarity with virtual worlds to really understand the book, but for this internet denizen it was a fun romp with a great surprise ending. Two paws up!
This was absolutely fantastic!

I don't know what else to say about it without spoiling it for the next person.

I feel like reading it has improved me as a person.

I'm going to read everything by this author.
The story is interesting and accurately reflects Second Life...until the end, anyway. As far as I know, there is no current way to do a couple of the things in the story, but that adds spice! I love it, and I'm looking for more!
I don't really know what to say. I picked this up for my kindle, for free, mostly on a whim. I don't remember how I found it, but having lived multiple.. strange.. lives in Second Life, something about the description intrigued me. And holy hell, I was not disappointed. This was a fantastic read, the concepts, the points made, are all very well thought out - many of them matching with some things I've come to terms with myself. Wonderful characters, fantastic story. Nothing else to say. After finishing this I immediately purchased the next book.
a detective in a virtual world ! a fun and unexpectedly interesting story written from the perspective of a virtual world (Second Life) avatar .. the ups, the downs, the adventure, the unexpected. I loved this when I read it and am about to start on the rest of the books in this series, and the rest of the books by this author.
No spoilers. ;P

This is an awesome book, and I don't want to ruin any of it for you. )

This book is not just a cultural commentary about the world Second Life, but a revisited tale of different faces worn both inside, and outside of realms, and the emotions tied to them.

It's about love, desire, and dreams.

Everything you would experience outside of Second Life.

BUT

What makes this book all the more awesome is that the places described in the book are not some distant vaugeries that at the very least would be an expensive venture to visit.

You can go there.

Without leaving the comfort of your own home.

You can go there.
